Scabies

Scabies is a parasitic infection caused by a mite that enters the epidermis of skin and lays its eggs. The resultant rash can evolve into a bacterial infection if it is scratched. Scabies is highly contagious and it is spread by skin-to-skin contact. The areas commonly affected are the buttocks, genitals, nipples, wrists and armpits. Scabies is also considered to be a sexually transmitted disease. Crowded, unsanitary or institutional living conditions aid the transmission of scabies.

Symptoms: persistent itchy rash.
