Measles
Measles is a viral infection that affects the respiratory tract, eyes and skin. The disease is contagious and can be spread by coughing, sneezing or secretions on surfaces or on articles. In healthy children measles runs its course for 10 days. Complications resulting from a measles infection include: middle ear infection, croup, bronchitis, pneumonia and strep throat. Adult cases of the measles are usually more severe than childhood cases.
Symptoms: fever, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, red eyes (sensitive to light), Koplik’s spots (red spots with white centres) in the mouth and throat, red rash on the forehead and ears. After a week, the rash can spread to the rest of the body.
