Inflammation
Inflammation is the result of injury or infection of a tissue. Normally inflammation is essential to clear away pathogens from a site of injury and is an important defence mechanism. Commonly encountered disorders that involve inflammation are: bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis and tendinitis. It is important to note that internal inflammation is usually caused by infection or allergy, whereas external inflammation is usually caused by an injury.
Triggers: drug overuse, exposure to toxins, free radical damage, infection, injury and trauma.
Symptoms: a tissue that is red, swollen, red, warm and tender.
