Herpes infection

There are numerous types of herpes viruses. The virus that causes cold sore is herpes simplex type 1 and the virus that causes genital herpes is herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2). Some people are asymptomatic, but others experience more severe symptoms (see below). Infection with HSV-2 is almost always through sexual intercourse.

Symptoms: red, sensitive, itching and burning skin, contagious fluid-filled blisters, tingling in the vaginal area, watery discharge from the urethra and pain during urination.
