Hair loss

Baldness is referred to as alopecia. A prevalent type of hair loss, seen in men is termed androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness). It is believed that people that suffer from pattern baldness may have receptors on their hair follicles that promote them to shut down under the influence of male hormones known as androgens. Women experience hair thinning as they age, and some women experience hair loss after the onset of menopause.

Contributing factors: heredity, aging, hormones, poor circulation, acute illness, surgery, radiation exposure, skin disease, sudden weight loss, high fever, iron deficiency, diabetes, thyroid disease, stress and poor diet.
