Diarrhoea is the state of producing frequent, loose and watery stools. The loss of fluids and electrolytes, following diarrhoea can cause serious health issues. Diarrhoea can exist alone or as a symptom of another problem. Acute diarrhoea associated with a fever and mucous or blood in the stool would indicate an infection.
Causes: There are numerous causes for diarrhoea, including: food poisoning, food allergies, incomplete indigestion of food, bacterial or viral infection, laxatives, sorbitol, drinking contaminated water, inflammatory bowel disease and emotional stress.
Associated symptoms: thirst, vomiting, cramping and abdominal pain.
