Appendicitis
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix, an organ that opens into the colon. It is caused by a diet deficient in fibre, which blocks the colon and aids the growth of bacteria in the appendix. Surgery is indicated for acute appendicitis, to prevent the inflamed appendix from bursting and contaminating the abdominal cavity with faecal matter.
Symptoms: severe intense abdominal pain close to the navel migrating toward the right lower abdomen, pain that is worsened by any movement, nausea, vomiting, abdominal swelling, mild fever, constipation and an inability to pass urine.
Who to consult: GP, herbalist.
