Allergies
An allergy results when the immune system incorrectly indentifies a non-toxic substance as being harmful to the body and mounts an immune mediate response against the allergen, which can damage the body. People can be allergic to pollen, house dust mites, metals, cosmetics, drugs such as penicillin, mould and certain foods (shellfish, nuts, eggs). People with severe food allergies that can cause anaphylaxis should carry an epi-pen (that contains adrenaline) to use in emergencies and wear a clearly labelled medical bracelet.
Symptoms: nasal congestion, coughing, wheezing, itching, headache, fatigue, oral breathing, skin rashes.
Who to consult: Dietician, GP, herbalist, immunologist, pharmacist, TCM practitioner.
