We speak to Dr Scott Makiol from Scott Makiol Biodentistry about his top tips for optimal oral healthcare.
Dr Scott Makiol is one of a new wave of dentists who combine a holistic approach to dental health with the latest in technology. With more than 30 years of experience under his belt, Dr Makiol leads a close-knit team of professionals including his wife, Nicole, from his new newly renovated practice in Moorooka, Queensland.
What was your initial vision for your dental practice and when did it all begin?
To build a practice where patients feel like they are family. We started our practice in 1991.
What does biodentristry mean?
Biodentistry is a holistic approach to oral healthcare that recognises that our teeth and mouth are part of the whole body, in combination with best science-based dentistry. We look at the reasons behind dental health problems and work maintain optimum oral health.
What are some of the sustainable practices you follow at your dental practice?
We minimise disposable waste wherever possible and we make our own demineralised water for running our autoclaves.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
I get great satisfaction helping patients achieve their oral health goals and helping them maintain a healthy smile.
What are some diet tips for maintaining strong teeth and gums?
Hydration is key and eating whole, unprocessed foods.
What’s next for you personally and professionally?
I plan to keep learning and updating my dental skills while living life to the fullest and appreciating all that I have and those closest to me.
What are your three top tips for wellbeing?
Do something you love with someone you love. Reduce stress and find your zen. Set future goals, and take small steps to achieve them.
