Is Internet Addiction the enemy of weight-loss?

Last month an International Conference of Psychologists is considering the declaration of Internet Addiction as a mental illness.

In my view this is a long shot – I mean second-life maybe.

The internet though IS the cause of many sedentary hours – there is nothing like the www to give you the sense of doing something productive while actually doing very little. Take today for example – I had to use the www to check out some kind of goals for my new fitness/weight-loss/stress relief regime, but the act of exploring this on at least 18 sites in 4 different countries took 3 hours longer than intended, and ooops no time left for that run! If only I was one of those people who could do the email, the banking and then get away from the screen – but then again, think of what they’re missing. I’ve decided it’s the tele time that has to go…

In the last media consumption survey TV did in fact lose to online, although remains one of the strongest mediums around with the average Australian doing a around about a whopping 3 hours a day. Is it just me or do media surveys reflect the lives of media junkies? Can anyone really do that much media? Media surveys tend to imply that we work, consume media and little else – when are we supposed to stop, breathe and shop for all the stuff that is advertised in the media?
