EMF Damage – How to protect yourself from it

EMF is short for electromagnetic fields. Electromagnetic radiation is in EMFs. There are two main types of EMFs.

Firstly, there are the higher-frequency EMFs, which are your x-rays and gamma rays. These EMFs are in the ionizing radiation part of the electromagnetic spectrum and can damage DNA or cells directly. Secondly you have the low- to mid-frequency EMFs. These are your static fields which do not vary with time and also your magnetic fields that come from electric power lines and appliances, radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, and visible light. Damage to DNA or cells is not directly caused by these EMFs directly.

In order to protect yourself form these electromagnetic fields you may need to make some important changes to your physical environment. There are a few nutritional ways also you can consider to help protect your body from EMFs.

Nutritional ways to protect from EMFS

There are certain spices may help prevent and repair damage from peroxynitrites (free radicals produced as a response to EMF). This is due to them being high in phenolics. The spices that are the best include cinnamon, cloves, ginger root, rosemary and turmeric.

Magnesium is a natural calcium channel blocker. This means it can help reduce the effects of EMF on your Voltage gated calcium channel (VGCC). VGCC antibodies are generally associated with Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome which is a rare autoimmune disorder of the neuromuscular junction. This is a miscommunication between the nerve cell and the muscles that leads to gradual muscle weakness. The problem is that many of us actually have a magnesium deficiency so we need to take a supplement.

Other nutritional type protection

Molecular hydrogen is another beneficial remedy. Some studies have shown molecular hydrogen can reduce damage by up to 80% caused by EMFs. This is because it targets the free radicals produced in response to radiation, such as peroxynitrites. There are also molecular hydrogen tablets available that you can take when flying to protect you from gamma rays.

Nrf2 is a supplement that protects your cells from free radical damage. It can lower inflammation and improve your mitochondrial function. NRF2 can be achieved through exercise, calorie reduction (including fasting) and natural nutrients such as sulforaphane from cruciferous vegetables, foods high in phenolic antioxidants, the long-chained omega-3 fats DHA and EPA, carotenoids, sulphur compounds from allium vegetables, isothiocyanates from the cabbage group and some terpenoid-rich food such as mangoes, apples, citrus fruits and broccoli.

Other ways to reduce your EMF exposure

There are some other things you can do to help reduce your emf exposure and one of these is to connect your desktop computer to the internet via a wired connection instead of using Wi-Fi. You should also stay away from wireless keyboards, trackballs, mice, game systems, printers and house phones. Use the wired options instead.

If you cannot avoid the use of Wi-Fi, shut it off when you’re not using it, most of all at night when you are sleeping. You should shut off the electricity to your bedroom at night. This is because it works to reduce electrical fields that is coming from wires in your wall. If there is an adjoining room next to your bedroom, you may need to use a meter to determine if you need to turn off power in that room as well.

Appliances and EMFs

If you still use a microwave oven, you should consider replacing it with a steam convection oven. This will not only heat your food quickly but it is far safer. Microwave ovens are one of the largest EMF polluters in your home.

The new smart appliances and thermostats depend on wireless signalling. This includes new smart TVs. They emit a Wi-Fi signal, and unlike your computer, you are unable to shut it off. You could use a large computer monitor as your TV instead, they don’t emit Wi-Fi. The new smart meters can also emit EMFs so you can re-fuse it or add a shield to an existing smart meter. When it comes to your mobile phone avoid carrying it on your body unless it is in airplane mode and never sleep with it in your bedroom unless it is in airplane mode. When using your mobile phone, use the speaker phone and place the phone at least a metre away from you.

You can also replace compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulbs with incandescent bulbs which have a filament that is heated until it glows. It is best if you can remove all fluorescent lights from your house. This is because they emit unhealthy light. Also, baby monitors that are wireless would be better hard wired if you must use one.

Children at Greater Risk?

Children are even greater affected by EMFs. This is due to them using the technology even more than adults. It’s important to educate your children to keep them safe. They have mobile phones and tablets from a young age and some sleep with their phones on or under their pillows. This could be exposing them to health threats. Children have a higher risk of higher mitochondrial damage over time especially as modern children are more reliant on technology. Similarly, if you are pregnant you need to be aware that you can expose your baby to EMFs even before birth.

There is no reliable way to predict the long-term effects of EMFs in children. However it could impact behavioural problems, hyperactivity, peer-related problems and emotional issues. Unfortunately, it is most likely there are more EMFs coming from the items inside your house rather from outside it. There are many devices you can use to deflect from EMF damage so search around and see what you can find.
