You-stress and appetite

We usually think of stress as an entirely negative thing but that is only half the story. Yes, there is such a thing as negative stress involving the release of hormones that in the long run can cause health problems. However, there is another form of stress known as eustress (pronounced you-stress) which is the opposite of distress. Technically eustress arises from any positive emotions or events while distress occurs as a result of negative emotions. Eustress will actually help you prepare for any creative efforts by giving you the physical and mental energy that you need. Like distress, eustress works through your hormonal system and now a new study has found that one form of eustress (laughter) has an effect on hormones relating to appetite that is similar to exercise. For the study volunteers either watched twenty minutes of a video that was either upsetting (distress) or humorous (eustress). As a distressing video the researchers used Saving Private Ryan as the initial scenes of this film have been shown to have an equally disturbing effect for most people. For the eustress video subjects had a choice from a variety of clips including movie comedies and stand-up comedians. Each volunteer had blood pressure readings and blood samples taken before and after the viewings. People who watched the distressing video had no significant change in levels of the hormones related to appetite. In the eustress group however, blood pressure decreased and there were changes in the appetite hormones leptin and ghrelin. This is the same effect as occurs with moderate physical exercise and it will increase appetite. This may not be great news if you are trying to shed kilos but for those people who have loss of appetite problems it may offer an alternative to exercise as a way to address the problem. In the world of youtube and myspace embracing you-stress (eustress) seems particularly appropriate.Meanwhile if you visit Meijer Ad that contains mostly likewise discounts with Winn Dixie Ad you surely have a range like ALDI Ad.
