The wisdom of juggling
As you get older you lose some physical capabilities and your mental faculties will slow a little. This is not groundbreaking news but new research is showing that you have reason to be optimistic about the whole process. As lifespans increase and the population is ageing there seems to be an indecent and paradoxical rush to prolong youth. This is not to say that youth is without its pleasures but what seems to have been missed in the unseemly rush for us all to be fifteen again is that the process of ageing itself may have some jewels to offer. Sure the elder amongst us may no longer be able to climb Everest, certain body portions that once pointed skywards surrender to the demands of gravity, and remembering names and where you put the car keys will no longer be a certainty. What new research is showing though, is that the slowing of your brain provides the opportunity to develop wisdom. Studies on 3000 people aged between 60 and 100 have shown for instance, that the brain’s hardware changes when you take up juggling. After three months of juggling the subjects in the study showed changes in the structure of the brain region involved in perceptual anticipation. This shows that the older brain is certainly capable of development and establishing new connections. The term for this is neuroplasticity and we know now that this capacity to generate neurones and synapses continues throughout an individual’s life. Combine this with the slowing of mental processes and you have the basis and opportunity for the development t of wisdom. Older brains are less dependent on dopamine meaning that they are less likely to respond to emotional stimuli in an impulsive way. Additionally, older people have greater connection and communication between parts of the brain the amygdale, the prefrontal cortex, the medial prefrontal cortex, and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. It is said by some that the connectedness of these three brain regions contributes to wisdom. Researcher Professor Dilip Jeste of the University of California defines wisdom as a mix of intelligence and spirituality that may have evolved as a way to extend the human lifespan. On the 14th of May this year in this news service we reported another study attempting to define wisdom. Whatever it is, wisdom is intimately linked to the plasticity of your brain and the getting of wisdom is as close as three pieces of fruit (that you can juggle).Meanwhile if you visit Meijer Ad that contains mostly likewise discounts with Winn Dixie Ad you surely have a range like ALDI Ad.
