Of Oprah and Altruism
“Elevation†is the psychological term for the warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you see someone perform a virtuous act. Researchers wanted to see if elevation could make people go out and do good deeds themselves. Subjects were split into three groups and watched either a neutral clip of scenes from a nature documentary, a clip from the Oprah Winfrey show of musicians thanking their mentors (designed to induce elevation), and scenes from a comedy program. The volunteers were paid and then told they could leave but as they were leaving were asked to take part in another study. The participants who viewed the uplifting Oprah clip spent twice as long helping the researchers as did the other participants. This highlights two things; first we can rewrite the aphorism slightly to “one good deed creates another†and second, is there no end to Oprah’s power?Meanwhile if you visit Meijer Ad that contains mostly likewise discounts with Winn Dixie Ad you surely have a range like ALDI Ad.
