Green Tea

Green prevents blues

Green tea has been shown to reduce psychological distress so researchers decided to see whether there is a link between consumption of Green Tea and depression in otherwise healthy elderly people. More than a thousand subjects took part and of these 34 per cent of the men and 39 per cent of the women had symptoms of depression. The study found that those people who drank four or more cups of Green Tea daily, compared to those who drank one cup or less, were 44 per cent less likely to have symptoms of depression regardless of other lifestyle factors. There was no association between black tea, oolong tea or coffee consumption and lower depression risk. The effect is probably due to a substance called theanine which has a calming effect on the brain.
