Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 bunches broccolini, chopped in half
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 700g-1kg porterhouse steak, cut into slices
  • Sesame seeds, optional
  • ORANGE SAUCE:
  • 1 cup orange juice with pulp
  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • Zest 1 orange
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tsp minced ginger
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp minced chilli
  • 1 tsp kecap manis
  • 6 fresh basil leaves, chopped finely
  • Cooked rice or rice noodles, to serve

Method

  • On a medium-high heat, whisk together orange juice with cornflour to ensure there are no lumps from the cornflour.
  • Add in remaining sauce ingredients and bring to a boil, while continuously stirring for 3-5 mins until the sauce thickens and slightly caramelises. Turn off heat and set aside.
  • In a wok or large frying pan, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil on a high heat. Add in broccolini and stir for 2 mins. Add half the orange sauce and continue to stir for another 2 mins. Broccolini should still be crunchy.
  • Remove from wok and set aside in a covered container to keep warm.
  • Heat remaining olive oil in the wok and add in sliced steak, sear for 1-2 mins on all edges and add in remaining orange sauce and stir well for 5 mins.
  • Return broccolini to the wok and toss well to combine with steak for 1-2 mins.
  • Divide into portions for serving. Top with sesame seeds.
  • Serve with rice or rice noodles
  • Tip: Using pre-cut stir-fry beef can remove a step for an even quicker stir-fry.
