Sustainability for people and the planet

We, the many*, focuses on sustainability for the health of people and the planet. Let’s find out more about the carbon-neutral business with its founder Will Brook.

How did your journey with We, the many* begin?

We, the many* began as an idea around five years ago. The key concept that really started it all off was around responsibility. I strongly feel that your personal health, as well as the health of the planet, is every individual’s responsibility. The challenge is how to actually take that responsibility when there is so much complex information and moving parts to both of these issues. The idea for We, the many* is that this gives the ability for every individual to take ownership of both their health and environmental decisions at the breakfast table.

We, the many* is focusing on its environmental impact by investing 50 per cent of its profits into carbon reduction. Please explain this environmentally friendly initiative.

The challenge for us to overcome was how to completely integrate sustainability and business together. The concept for We, the many* is unique in that we invest 50 per cent of our profits into carbon-reduction projects and enterprises, so the future success of the whole business is dependent on not only our own products, but supporting those who have an environmental impact. As We, the many* grows, so does our environmental benefit. As an example, for 2200 bags of granola sold, we invest $5000, so the more our healthy cereal is consumed, the more we can invest! In the future, we would like to partner with more projects such as solar farms, green tech, battery storage and regenerative farming. There is so much opportunity out there, it’s exciting just thinking about it.

We, the many* has a carbon-neutral breakfast range. Please share a bit of information about these delicious, sustainable products.

We, the many* starts with breakfast because that’s how you start every day. It gives you the opportunity to have the best possible start for both you and the planet. I’ve also always been passionate about optimising your health through good food and supplements. Our products are specifically designed to benefit your health using scientifically proven ingredients that set you on the right track each day. Personally, I am a massive fan of curcumin and have had quite profound results from using it each day. I’ve had hip and joint issues for much of my life, so inflammation has been a part of my day-to-day life for a long time. I heard about the efficacy of curcumin compared to chewing anti-inflammatories every day, (there are multiple studies relating to this) and after some brief research, I started adding it into my daily routine. The change has made a significant difference to my quality of life.

Your health mission is to optimise people’s personal health with scientifically proven ingredients. What other factors does We, the many* believe influence a healthy lifestyle?

One of our mottos is that we really want people to live well. There are so many aspects to that and it can be a bit mind boggling; how much do you need to exercise, what type of exercise, what is the right diet, eating too much, eating too little, psychological health, supplementation, the list goes on and on, and there is no perfect solution. With We, the many*, we want to provide an easy opportunity to take a healthy step by choosing a breakfast that includes proven beneficial ingredients (it doesn’t take a lot of research to see the profound benefits of curcumin and beetroot). Improving any aspect of your health just requires at least moving in a positive direction. We provide that step at breakfast, with the added benefit to the environment as well.

What’s next for We, the many*?

At the moment, we are really working on spreading the word about what we are trying to achieve through We, the many*. This is both from a health and an environmental point of view. The concept of investing in the environment and in carbon reduction is not intended to be something that is unique to us. The ideal situation is that everyone who has the capacity can do something better with their dollars for the planet, without costing them in the long term. It’s an investment that every individual or business can make. I hope in the future that we have paved the way, proved the method, and given the tools for others to take on our mission to live healthier, to improve our environment, and to take what responsibility you can for your piece of the issue, however large or small that may be.
