Talking osteopathy with Claire Richardson
Welcome to my blog! All good relationships start with a good introduction, so in this, my first blog post, I’ll endeavour to demonstrate who I am and what I am passionate about. I’m Dr Claire Richardson, an osteopath living and working in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been involved with osteopathy for the best part of a decade now, and I am still as dedicated and passionate about it as when I was a wide eyed, 18 year old uni student.
What is osteopathy? Good question – keep your eye out for the next blog post!
I care about health. I care about people. I care about yummy food and laughing with friends. I find myself exceptionally lucky to be in the job I am in – as an osteopath, I am privileged to know not only my patient’s medical histories, but also their personal histories. I have had patients cry to me when a family member passes away and, conversely, confide in me that they are pregnant, before telling anyone else. I get excited when my patient’s year 12 results come out, or when another becomes engaged.
Osteopathy has allowed me to invest in a form of healthcare that I believe to be imperative, but sadly lacking in our community.

I believe that patients are smart. The conditions that we treat often make perfect sense to us, and the exercises or management of them are logical and straightforward if the condition is understood. Therefore, I am passionate about educating each and every one of my patients about what their condition is, and how they can assist or prevent it.
Because I get to spend quality time (30 minutes usually) with my patients, I have time to really listen to their stories and properly explain to them their condition. I strongly believe that this takes more than just 5 minutes, which might occur elsewhere.
I get particularly excited about headaches, jaw pain, migraines, fertility or gynae issues. (Assisting with, that is, not experiencing!) I am passionate about my job, but also the experiences it has provided me with.
In this blog, I’ll explore all aspects of osteopathy and health, with the occasional recipe recommendation thrown in.
I hope you enjoy my thoughts, and perhaps even one day take a tiny little tip or trick away with you.
Keep well!
Claire
