A Q&A with Emma Watson, co-founder of Love Tea

Emma Watson, co-founder of Love Tea, shares how a perfectly brewed cuppa can help us appreciate the quiet moments while also offering an array of therapeutic benefits.

Tell us about Love Tea…

Our intention for Love Tea is that, when you mindfully sip it, it inspires you to make time to appreciate the quiet moments, take care of your health and share a moment with the people you love. At Love Tea, we skilfully craft, blend and pack each of our products in Australia. We collaborate with growers and small-scale co-operatives around the world to fairly source organic ingredients. We thoughtfully design each of our unique products, to ensure optimum therapeutic benefit, exceptional flavour and minimal impact on the environment.

What was your initial vision for Love Tea and how has that evolved?

Initially, we wanted to create a range of teas that were organic and tasted great, but also offered therapeutic benefits. We hoped to supply wholefood and organic stores and for Love Tea to help people improve their health while enjoying an exceptional tea experience. This initial concept of the business hasn’t changed at all over time, but how far we see it going has: we now have confidence that people engage with our tea all around the world.

How can drinking tea benefit our health?

As a naturopath, I think tea is such an easy, simple and effective way for people to bring herbs into their lives. Our unique blends offer a specific therapeutic benefit to help support a specific system or condition within the body.

Where do you source your tea leaves and ingredients?

We source our ingredients from organic and Fairtrade plantations all around the world and we handcraft each blend here in Australia. We use some local ingredients depending on seasonality and quality, but regularly import directly from plantations in India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Japan and China.

What are your tips for creating a tea ritual?

Find a tea you like to have at a specific time of the day and ensure you bring that tea into your daily routine. This way, it quickly becomes a beautiful and beneficial ritual. For us, we brew the Sleep Tea before bed and start our day with matcha or English breakfast. Earl Grey is our weekend tea and there’s a whole lot of other tea drinking in between. The ritual of drinking tea allows someone to slow down and pause for a moment, akin to a beautiful meditation. This we celebrate with Love Tea.

What’s next for Love Tea?

We would like everyone to have access to exceptional organic tea. We aim to make the range more available in stores, both here in Australia and around the world. Our blends with therapeutic benefits have had an amazing response, really helping people with certain health concerns. Blends like our Fertility Tea and Breast-Feeding Tea have helped women achieve desired outcomes naturally.

If more people knew about these teas and could access them from their local stores, more people would find success using a natural approach before turning to more orthodox options. I also hope to see Love Tea influencing people’s health choices. When you start making decisions based on health and happiness, you realise how some of your other diet or lifestyle choices are disconnected from a state of health. We hope to supply more stores globally so our teas can help support people on their journeys to better health.
