How to control your emotions

Thought control is something that I get asked a lot about. People often don’t feel safe on this planet. They worry, they are too busy, they become stressed and want to know how to control their thought patterns, their negative emotions and have more positive energy.

Do you suffer from a lot of illness, anger, stress, worry? It may be due to a lack of thought control. This affects your emotional state and adds to blockages in your energy. Emotional blockages can be caused by a lack of thought control. Every time we have a negative or positive thought or feeling, it gets stored in our subconscious minds. The music we listen to, the trauma we go through, our illnesses … all of those experiences and more can affect our thought control. We need to learn how to control them in a positive way.

Thinking positively helps create good things in your life. Better thought control and emotional control undoes some of the blockages. Meditation is one way of achieving this. Many studies have been done into meditation and how it affects positive thinking to assess how powerfully it can heal. Even if you are ill, research has found that if you believe something will help you then half the battle has been won.

Focused positive thinking is thought control that lessens the problems in your life. These problems are fed by negative thinking and negative energy. So it is better to think about the things you want to happen in a good way to help them manifest rather than worry and create more negative energy.

The music we listen to, the trauma we go through, our illnesses … all of those experiences and more can affect our thought control.

The problem is that when we are in pain of any kind – mental, emotional or physical – our thoughts go to that pain and we seem to have a lack of control. This lack of thought control brings even more negativity and more pain. So a vicious cycle begins in your thoughts and feelings, perhaps even physically creating illness. The messages go to the subconscious mind and you set up a pattern which gets stronger every time.

Picture this scenario. You go to buy a lotto ticket with the thought in mind that, ‘I never win, it’s impossible to win this thing.’ My question is, why would you even bother to buy the ticket? You are already setting up a negative, no-win environment. You are already putting negative, subconscious signals out there. Even if you were only joking. It therefore becomes important to use words to change these negative thoughts into positive ones.

So what are some of the devices you can use for positive thought control? If you are continually sending out negative thoughts and they disturb you, one device is to start by saying out loud to yourself the words ‘cancel, cancel’. Or even ‘cancel that thought’. Your mind knows the word ‘cancel’ very well and will neutralise that negative thought and energy. Or you can substitute that negative thought with a positive image of you winning that prize. It may seem difficult and a bit weird at first but after a while you will find your mind will start to do that on its own because you have trained it that way.

What you are teaching your mind is to become consciously aware of how you think and feel. If you want to be healthy, you need to have positive thinking and feelings. These will affect your physical body in a positive way and reprogram how you function. You will find you will start to think beyond your self-imposed limitations and new opportunities will open up for you.

Even if you are ill, research has found that if you believe something will help you then half the battle has been won.

Another way to learn thought control is with meditation, which will teach you to focus. That focus will build a healthier, positive environment. There are many good meditation courses around and I would suggest you enroll in one. It is important you learn from a properly trained teacher, if you can access one. Sitting for five minutes listening to music or reflecting is not meditation. Meditation can be difficult to learn on your own despite the many downloads on YouTube. There is a theory side to meditation, which the student needs to know in order to meditate properly. This is often glossed over when there is no trained teacher at hand.

Coupled with meditation you can use affirmations but remember affirmations need to suit you properly and join how you really feel to how you think. An example is someone who is angry saying the affirmation, ‘I feel peaceful.’ It’s not going to work. A competent therapist in NLP will get to the bottom of the negative thought and give you positive affirmations that suit you and create positive thought control.  NLP is neurolinguistic programming, which can dispel the negative patterns and create new, desired, positive ones.

Hypnotherapy, energy work such as Reiki and other methods of integrating energy can also help you gain thought control. They affect your cellular memory in a positive way, which in turn affects illness and physical symptoms. Why not give them a try? You have everything to gain. (Notice I did not say ‘you have nothing to lose’: no-one likes to lose anything – even our bad habits. Just another example of how important the language we use shapes our lives …)
