Recipe

Ingredients

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 small onion, very finely chopped
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup sugar-free tomato sauce
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup finely chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 onions, peeled & sliced thinly
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cloves black garlic
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp Dijon mustard
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup light-flavoured oil

Method

  • Place burger ingredients into a large bowl and use your hands to thoroughly combine.
  • Divide into 8 portions and shape into patties. If you have a burger press, it’s great for this.
  • Place burger patties on a lined tray and chill while you work on the onions.
  • Place the onions in a large frying pan with the olive oil and cook over medium heat.
  • Cook the onions, stirring regularly until they are very soft and golden — this takes about 15 mins
  • Add the Worcestershire sauce and stir through.
  • Cook your burgers in your preferred fashion (see note below).
  • Add black garlic aioli ingredients into a jar, use a stick mixer and blitz for 30 secs until the mixture is completely emulsified.
  • Serve burgers with a slice of low-fat cheese, piled with caramelised onions and slathered with black garlic aioli on a brioche bun.
  • Note: You can cook these burgers by baking them in the oven, in a pan or on the barbecue, or in an air fryer. Just make sure the internal temperature reaches at least 60°C.
