Did you know that on average you think about 60,000 thoughts a day and about 90% of these are repetitive?
Most of us focus on what we don’t want – we focus on fear, lack and unhappiness and this becomes our predominant mental attitude. What’s this I hear you ask? It’s the thoughts that you think about, whether consciously or unconsciously most of the time.
Not happy with your life? Change your thoughts! By using positive affirmations we begin to focus on what we DO want things begin to change.
To affirm something is to state it as being true. This could be positive or negative – our subconscious mind can’t tell the difference but will manifest what it believes this as ‘truth’.

We all use affirmations whether we realise it or not. However for most of us these are negative. For example: ‘ bad things always happen to me’, ‘ I never have any money’, ‘I’m so fat’. Any of these sound familiar? Mine was ‘I hate my job’, ‘I want to leave my job’ over and over again. These thoughts drained me and made me feel exhausted. This was my ‘truth’.
When I started changing my predominant mental attitude by using positive affirmations, my outer world began to change. This is because I started changing my ‘truth’.
For affirmations to work, you need to believe the words you are saying. You need to feel the truth inside you as this emotion is the power you need to fuel your affirmations.
For example, for me saying I now have the job of my dreams didn’t seem real as I was still stuck in a job that I didn’t like. Instead, because I was working on changing my reality, I was able to believe the following affirmation,’ I am now in the process of having the job of my dreams’. I repeated this over and over again, it made me happy and excited. I then reached a stage where I could say ‘ I now have the job of my dreams’ and believe it.
When do we say affirmations?
1) Silently during meditation or while deep in relaxation, this is especially powerful right before you go to sleep or right after waking up
2) Repeat them silently or aloud throughout the day while going about your daily work
3) Say them to yourself aloud while looking in the mirror
4) Record your affirmations and play them while driving or exercising
5) Write your affirmations at least 10 to 20 times every day.
6) Write your affirmations and place them around your home, especially in places where you spend the most time.
7) Make up a song using affirmations you want to work with and sing it throughout the day
Remember in order for affirmations to work you need to power them with as much passion and excitement as you possibly can. You need to state and believe these statements as ‘truth’. If they don’t stir these emotions, change the statement. As you repeat these affirmations and they become ingrained in your subconscious mind your life slowly but surely begins to change!
