There are lots of good reasons to exercise; it makes you physically healthy, it makes you mentally healthy, it gets you looking good, it aids the ageing process, and it can provide useful social connection. If you need further reason to exercise and you are female then a new study may have provided it as it seems exercise can cause women of all ages to reach orgasm.
Researchers from Indiana University analysed 360 women aged between 18 and 63 who experienced either exercise-induced orgasm or exercise-induced sexual pleasure. This is where the exercise itself, without any sort of sexual fantasies, leads to either sexual pleasure or orgasm.
Most of the women studied were in a relationship or married.
The findings showed that 80 per cent of the women had some control over their experience, but for twenty per cent their arousal due to exercise was beyond their control.
The mechanisms behind the exercise orgasms remain unclear but the type of exercise to elicit such pleasure seems easily defined. In 52 per cent of cases orgasm was associated with exercises that build core muscles. The most likely exercise was one called the “captain’s chair†that involves resting the arms on padded arm rests that allows your legs to swing free and then lifting the knees towards the chest keeping a 90 degree angle to your body.
After core muscle exercises the other exercise types that were most likely to induce orgasm were; weight lifting (26.5 per cent), yoga (20 per cent), cycling (15.8 per cent), running (13.2 per cent), and walking (9.6 per cent).
Not all women will achieve orgasm through exercise alone but if the news that “coregasm†is possible does not lift attendances at Pilates and yoga classes, then nothing will.
