Beauty inspired by the sea — sitting down with Maeraki Australia

We sit down and chat to Maeraki about sustainability, the ocean, and nourishing your body from within.

How did Maeraki begin?

We are a firm believer in natural beauty and along with our personal struggles with health issues allow the team behind Maeraki to see and feel the difference in our body by fixing it from within.  Our personal experience in the pursuit of holistic health in the natural supplements space led the team to realize that the market is very fragmented with separate supplements for a specific aid when it can be consolidated. The better products are too expensive to make consumption on a daily basis in the right dosages to achieve optimum results. Hence, Maeraki set out with this in mind to make luxury natural supplements affordable. Our products are designed based on the concept of prevention and protection as the key to overall health and wellbeing.

What are Maeraki’s commitments?

At Maeraki, we are committed to only using premium clean ingredients, 100% natural and optimal potency per serving. We take natural very seriously as we do not use anything that’s artificial or synthetic, all nutrients come from a wholefood source.  We want our customers to receive the same benefits like they are consuming food except they are getting them in an optimal dosage which is typically difficult to obtain from normal daily dietary intake. We believe in utilising synergistic ingredients to further amplify its benefits and each product is formulated to target different key health concerns.

What is collagen, and why is it important for our skin?

Collagen is like “glue” that sits in the middle of our skin and helps to renew and restore dead skin cells. Type I collagen makes up to 90% of our body, making it one of the most important building blocks for skin, hair and nails. The premature signs of aging such as fine lines, dry skin, pigmentation and wrinkles are due to the deterioration of our body’s collagen production cause by exposure to UV light, age, lifestyle and unhealthy dietary intake. Our body is producing less collagen each year after age 30 and 25% less collagen by the age of 40.

How is Maeraki different from other collagen brands?

We have been experimenting with different types of supplements in pursuit of natural beauty for the past 10 years. Combined with our team knowledge in naturopathy, we found that nutrition from our daily dietary intake is usually insufficient and the key to youthful glowing skin is to supplement our body with the right nutrients that it required for anti-aging.

Type 1 collagen is most abundant in marine collagen. Thus, in order to ensure optimal results, our Radiance collagen has one of the highest concentrations of marine collagen at 8,000mg per serving with one of the world’s finest molecular weight for bioavailability using fish skin only of wild caught fishes. After all, nutrients are only effective when taken in meaningful dosages.

Maeraki stands out with its synergistic ingredients, with the addition of Aloe Vera and Lycopene from tomato amplifying the effects of skin healing, Vitamin C absorption and collagen production.

Do you have vegan options?

Our Harmony line is almost practically made from organic vegan ingredients. Harmony is a bio-fermented blend that undergoes a multi-stage fermentation process packed with antioxidant-rich ingredients and a broad spectrum of probiotics to target our immunity, digestive, skin and gut health.

Our Vitality line is a great product for anti-inflammatory as it has a potent amount of curcuminoids from turmeric extract. We’ve made this to be unique with the addition of pumpkin seed protein which provides zinc, magnesium and iron to support anti-inflammation, promote healing and reduce tiredness.

What are you doing to minimise the environmental impact of your brand?

We are very conscious to ensure that we play our part in the earth’s sustainability. Our marine collagen is derived from wild caught fish through sustainable fishing.  Sustainable fishing is imperative in maintaining the fish population in the ocean at a healthy and productive level, respecting the ecosystems and ensuring the people who depend on fishing to be able to maintain their livelihoods. In addition to that, we only use materials that can be recycled or biodegradable for all our packaging.

What is your favourite food you like to add Maeraki to?

All our products are specially formulated to taste delicious and versatile to be added to drinks such as milk and smoothies. My personal favourite is just mixing it with milk.

What are three little small things we can do today to help improve our skin and inner body health?

The top 3 tips that Maeraki team swears by are:

Reducing the intake of highly processed food that is high in fats and sugar will prevent inflammation which contributes to bad skin conditions. By taking the right supplements diligently on a consistent basis will provide your body with a boost of nutrients in order to carry out normal skin functions. Also, a good skincare routine is important to ensure your skin stay in good condition.
