Colonic Hydrotherapy and your health

Colonics is the cleaning of the large intestine by using water through a tube inserted into the bottom. Although it may not sound too good it can be an important process in keeping you healthy.

If you have never had colonics before the thought of some stranger (professional or not) inserting a tube in your bottom and putting water in there can be a bit disconcerting however the whole process is not really that bad, just a bit uncomfortable in the stomach perhaps and the affects it can have on your health are enormous.

There are places around Sydney that you can go for a treatment that have strict hygiene standards. All the tubes used are plastic and thrown away after each person. They use a machine which monitors at the correct levels the water going in and the machine has a reverse switch which also allows the water to come out. It is not messy at all as we may think it would be.

Your consultation is private and the procedure is usually explained thoroughly to you beforehand. In fact some clinics, days before, send you a diet sheet of foods you should avoid about three days before as these will give you wind and make you feel uncomfortable.

You will go to the toilet before the process and lie down. The tube is really thin, sterile and disposable and they insert purified water slowly which infuses itself into the bowel due to gravity. As soon as you feel like you need to go to the toilet the machine is reversed, the water flows out with the waste in it. The tube does not move out of place and the procedure is repeated until the treatment is finished.

Whilst the water is inside you there can be a slight uncomfortable feeling or a sensation of pressure. Some therapists will massage your stomach to relieve the discomfort but it really isn’t that bad.

The process is designed to remove not only old, hardened bowel motions that have not come out naturally but also toxins and other waste that could harm you and make you ill. Usually it’s good to go for 3 sessions a week apart. This allows the practitioner to gently cleanse high into the intestines and really clean out all the waste that should not be there.

After a session you may feel a slight urge to go to the toilet but usually you empty your bowel before you leave the consulting rooms. If you are concerned regarding drip then you could wear a pad just until you get home. However many people don’t have any problems after a colonics.

The result is that your toxins and waste are washed out, sometimes stuff that has coagulated in there for ages, and you may actually feel ‘clean’ inside. Your bowel motions will be different as there is not the pile of junk to fight through to go to the toilet. To top it off you have removed waste and you will probably find also a bit of weight however I need to stress this should not be used as a weight reduction measure as that in itself is not healthy.

The Health benefits of this procedure can be innumerable. Think about it. You are washing out toxins and anything else collected in there such as parasites. All this lowers the level of inflammation in the body and it is inflammation that is the basis of so many illnesses.

It is important to find a practitioner who can answer all your questions. Since the industry currently is not regulated by any particular authority I would look for people who have been accepted to websites of practitioners who actually check out their credentials and make sure that they have the qualifications they say they do. It is rumoured that very soon the government will be putting measures in place to regulate the industry however it is important you ask the right questions regarding qualifications, training, length of training, how long they have been a therapist and if they have insurance and/or a first aide certificate. Visit the place and look at the hygiene levels and if you feel comfortable you will find that you will be OK.

It may be a good idea to have colonics, after that initial time, once a year to make sure that you regularly do ‘clean out’.
