cholesterol 1

Cholesterol is not the public enemy that it has been made out to be it is one of the most essential nutrients in the body. The only reason we have demonised it is because there is a drug, statins, that can lower the levels. Yes they do lower the levels of cholesterol extremely well but they dont reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke by more than 1%. But the side effects are up to 40%. The reason the drug companies claim they are so successful is that they use misguided statistics that make 1% (that is 1 in 100) look like 40%.
the cholesterol industry in Australia is probably close to 5 billion dollars. $1 billion for the statin drugs, much the same for all the monitoring and measuring we do and around $3 for all the foods, eg margarines etc, that are supposed to save our lives. Unfortunately margarines with special super cholesterol lowering powers do lower cholesterol they do not improve anyone’s health nor reduce the rate of Cardiovascular disease. Far from it they are probably the worst food I could imagine.
