At some point or another, you’ve probably felt like a hamster on a wheel while using the cardio equipment at your local gym. This feeling is usually accompanied by the “well at least i’m doing something” thought that justifies a not-so-challenging cardio session. I like to call this “blah” cardio. It happens to the best of us, infact, my recent “blah” cardio session inspired me to write this post.
The solution?
Break your cardio up within your workout. If you usually do your weights, then finish with 30 minutes of cardio, break up each weights exercise with a 5 minute bout of intense cardio.
For example, if your workout looks something like this:
3 sets of 10-12 Lat pulldown
3 sets of 10-12 Bench press
3 sets of 10-12 Shoulder press
3 sets of 10-12 Bicep curls
3 sets of 20 Tricep dips
3 sets of 20 Squats
Simply slot 5 minutes of challenging cardio after the third set of each exercise. Try a different machine, mix it up, throw in some skipping or boxing. The possibilities are endless!
Most of all, have fun!
